Tin(II) oxide, also known as stannous oxide or tin monoxide, is produced thermally from high-grade tin metal.

It is popular as an opacifier, known to be the best at producing even, opaque, glossy glazes.

The normal use of tin oxide is between 5% and 10% in a glaze, as more than that can produce a dull matte glaze.
